RM21-17: Order 1920 compliance filings due Feb 12, 2027
FERC RM21-17-000 · Filed Jun 24, 2026

FERC gives Florida transmission providers six more months on Order 1920 compliance

A June 24 notice moves the Florida Transmission Providers’ interregional compliance deadline under Order No. 1920 to February 12, 2027, aligning it with the Southeast’s regional planning process.

Why it matters → Order 1920 is the federal rulebook for how regions plan — and pay for — the next generation of transmission. A deadline that moves in Florida moves the Southeast’s interregional homework with it: the extension keeps the state’s transmission owners on the same compliance clock as their neighboring planning region, and it is a measure of how much coordination work the rule still demands.

Duke Energy Florida, Florida Power & Light, and Tampa Electric Company jointly filed the motion on May 19, 2026.1 The three companies — the filing calls them the Florida Transmission Providers — asked for more time to complete the compliance filings Order No. 1920 requires for interregional transmission coordination.

The extension runs six months, from August 12, 2026 to February 12, 2027.2 The providers said the extra time would let the personnel who run the existing regional planning processes keep that work moving while they develop the interregional coordination proposals.

The companies asked for the new date to align with the Southeastern Regional Transmission Planning Process.3 Their motion argued a common date would allow better interregional coordination with their neighboring transmission planning region.

No answers were filed in response to the motion.4 The request was granted: the deadline for the Florida providers’ compliance filings is now extended to and including February 12, 2027.5 The notice was issued June 24, 2026, over the signature of Commission Secretary Debbie-Anne A. Reese.
